  Aomeiding Affair


The State Food and Drug Administration pulled hydrophilic polyacrylamide gel (commonly known as PAAG) from the market on April 30 and withdrew Fuhua's production license of Jilin province after a surge of complaints and mounting public pressure. The gel was cancerous and could cause women to lose their breasts. The production of PAAG was approved on the mainland in 1997 and has been used in some augmentation procedures such as breast enlargements by more than 300,000 women and has caused irreversible injures. Such gel can be used almost nine years, the relevant government authorities The State Food and Drug Administration should bear liabilities.
